Presidential Determination - Fiscal Year 2024

On September 29, 2023, President Biden signed the Presidential Determination on Refugee Admissions for Fiscal Year 2024. In continuity with the previous two fiscal years, the admissions target was set at 125,000 in light of the global displacement crisis, which has seen a steep increase in the amount of people fleeing violence, war, and political instability. The Press Statement noted a particular increase in admissions for the Western hemisphere in response to regional and national crises, citing the instability in Latin America and the Caribbean.  

“We recognize the Biden Administration’s efforts to rebuild our resettlement programs in the United States,” said NSC Executive Director Margaret O’Sullivan. “This fiscal year, we must push to achieve the admissions target. NSC stands ready to welcome and support refugees and immigrants arriving in the Philadelphia region, seeking a brighter future for themselves and their families.”
