Refugee Reception & Placement Programs at Risk

rrp

On January 24th, NSC learned of a Suspension Letter from the US State Department indicating that all services and financial assistance for newly arrived refugees must stop immediately while a broad review of Foreign Aid programs is conducted.

This means that months of support that NSC was in the process of providing the 200+ newly arrived refugees must stop with no warning. Without this support, our clients will be deprived of critical services such as rental assistance, food access, and health and wellness resources. We must underscore the cruelty of this Suspension Letter, given that it will leave our newly arrived clients, who were brought here through a lawful process of 3rd party resettlement through the Biden Administration, in dire circumstances.

As such, we are particularly grateful to the Ranking Members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees and Immigration Sub-Committees for sending this letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio appealing for a just end to the suspension of the Reception & Placement Program - a program which has received broad bi-partisan support since the US Congress first passed the US Refugee Admissions Act of 1980.

We urge you to contact your local representatives, Senator Dave McCormick and Senator John Fetterman, to support the appeal against the suspension of the Reception & Placement Program. Join us in standing with immigrants!

Thank you to the signatories: Senator Richard Durbin, Senator Alex Padilla, and Ranking House Committee Members Jamie Raskin and Pramila Jayapal.
