NSC named "Zone of Peace" by Religious Leaders Council of Greater Philadelphia

Zones of Peace is a region-wide interfaith movement of churches, synagogues, mosques, other houses of worship, schools, and community-based organizations working to address the root causes of violence and make us safer in the communities where we live, work, and play. Zones of Peace recognizes organizations that are pioneering creative responses to violence and elevates their leadership.

NSC is recognized as a Zone of Peace:

The compassion and competence that mark NSC’s comprehensive services for immigrants and refugees align NSC with the Council’s Call to People of Faith to Stop Violence. It calls us to “make our homes and neighborhoods zones of peace free from fear, filled with respect, and marked by deeds of kindness.”

More from the Steering Committee:

The Steering Committee heard from those of us who met with staff from NSC on February 28. We shared what we learned about the complex issues presented by immigrants, refugees, and survivors of torture. We shared what we learned about the difficulty of navigating the legal requirements to enter and remain in the United States. We told the committee about the enthusiasm and commitment of staff who have found ways to thrive in the face of great challenges and bring healing and hope to so many. We described the agility of NSC, which has enabled your large organization with a long history to adapt quickly and effectively to meet the challenges presented by, for example, the pandemic and the sudden influx of Afghan refugees.

We believe that each time individuals or families are provided stability via care, hospitality, emotional and physical health, peace is created where the cycles of violence could have spiraled out of control. We applaud the partnerships cultivated with other agencies and especially with diverse ethnic and religious communities in the region. We are especially impressed by the way staff members with different areas of expertise collaborate to meet the unique constellation of needs presented by clients. We are amazed that so many people can come through your agency with each one getting individualized care.
