NSC Hosts International Women's Day Celebration

NSC’s International Women’s Day celebration also included self-care activities for clients and staff, including yoga, acupuncture, and art-making.

On March 8, in honor of International Women’s Day, NSC held a celebration at our office in recognition of the inspiring, resilient refugee and immigrant women that our organization serves. We hosted a resource fair and invited local organizations, who provided information on services available for women, including ESL opportunities, along with giveaways. Local organizations and individuals donated their clothing and jewelry to distribute that day, and clients were excited to receive necklaces and bracelets, things that they may have had to leave behind when fleeing their countries, but that bring them a feeling of confidence and joy. NSC’s International Women’s Day celebration also included self-care activities for clients and staff, including yoga, acupuncture, and art-making. NSC staff invited clients to participate in a small bazaar, allowing women to sell their crafts and art to the event’s attendees. Women sold beautiful jewelry and handmade hats and scarves, along with paintings and artwork. One woman offered henna for staff and clients. Participants signed a banner commemorating the day, and both male and female clients engaged in the afternoon’s activities to honor women’s contributions to the world.
