Matching Grant (MG)

The Matching Grant Program (MG) is a federally-funded program designed to assist newly arrived refugees, asylees, and eligible immigrants gain economic independence within 180 to 240 days of enrollment. MG offers 8 months of individualized case management and job readiness support, while clients are in the initial process of identifying and securing sustainable employment. Newly arrived refugees must enroll in MG within 30 days of admission to the United States, and other eligible populations must enroll within 90 days of their final grant of status.  

Services Provided:

• Employment Services including:
  • Job placements with local employers
  • Interview/job application assistance
  • Transportation orientations
  • Job retention support
• Case Management: We provide individualized services to address barriers to employment and to promote self-sufficiency. We develop service plans to identify needs and follow up steps. Services may include public benefits applications, health access, financial literacy, school enrollment, and more.
• English Classes: We provide in-person and virtual vocational English classes, as well as referrals to external ESL partners. English classes are offered in six levels: Pre-Literate, Low Beginner, High Beginner, Low Intermediate, High Intermediate, and Advanced.
• Financial Assistance: The MG program also supports clients with cash assistance, transportation and utility bill allowance, and rental assistance for a limited time. 

Matching Grant clients may apply for public benefits such as food stamps, Medicaid, or Refugee Medical Assistance, but they cannot access public cash assistance (RCA or TANF) from the welfare office.
