Client Skills Lead to Job Success
In his first month in his role, Pascal has acted as both a role model and a bridge for the Congolese community, connecting many of them with their first jobs in the United States.
As a comprehensive social services provider, the team here at NSC has a clear understanding of the unique qualities it takes to be an effective social worker – compassion, patience, empathy, perseverance and leadership. It’s not surprising that many of the refugees we see walk into the Employment Team’s office innately possess these very traits, cultivated through the experiences that have led their arduous journeys to the US.
Some individuals just exude those qualities, as is the case of a recent client from the DRC Pascal Nzabahandi. Pascal’s previous work experience as a community organizer and outreach coordinator for an NGO that focused on assisting families and children within the refugee camps, honed these vital skills of a caring social worker. And these are the kind of skills that can be transferred across professions, across continents, across cultures, across the invisible boundaries that seemingly separate us as peoples, because these are the skills that offer genuine connection and foundational support amongst individuals and ultimately, communities as a whole.
Having recognized these qualities in this unique man, it was a no-brainer for the Employment Team to nominate him when a position came up for a Community Recruiter with On Time Staffing, a long-time employer partner of NSC who has hired many of our clients over the years. After coordinating the interview for the position, the Employment Team celebrated Pascal’s success after being hired on the spot! And in his first month in his role, he’s acted as both a role model and a bridge for the Congolese community, connecting many of them with their first jobs in the United States, so that these newcomers can begin rebuilding the foundation of this next fateful chapter of their lives.
