Leyla joined NSC in 2021, although her work with refugees started in 1999 coordinating a program for Afghan women refugees in Uzbekistan. Leyla comes with years of experience in nonprofit operations and management, including her past work at NSC in direct services, ethnic community building and organizing, volunteer coordination, and leading organizational development and communication efforts. Mrs. Dursunova believes that community organizing is essential to a successful integration of newcomers. She has provided capacity building and organizational development assistance to Ethnic Community Based Organization through her work in project SOAR and as a consultant to project Switchboard with International Rescue Committee. Prior to returning to NSC, Leyla served as a Vice-President at World Rehabilitation Fund, a pioneer international nonprofit serving people with disabilities, where she led fundraising, communications, program development, Board relations, and partnerships. Leyla has a Master’s degree in Social Administration and Management and International Social Welfare from Columbia University and is a recipient of the Open Society Institute Social Work Fellowship.
